HOW TO REGISER FOR E-SHARM

Around 88% of the workforce of the country is engaged in unorganised sector and they are not getting adequate social security benefits. Few welfare schemes are being implemented by the Central Government for specific groups/sub-groups of unorganised workers such as beedi workers, cine workers, building and construction workers etc. Government are implementing welfare programmes for certain categories of unorganised sector workers and non-government organisations also provide social security to certain categories of workers. Central Government to provide certain welfare schemes to all groups of the unorganised sector workers, has enacted the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act 2008. This act has now been sub synced in the code on social security which is a common welfare approach.

eSHRAM portal 

eSHRAM portal has been developed for creating a National Database of Unorganized Workers, which is seeded with Aadhaar. It will have details of name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill types and family details etc. for optimum realization of their employability and extend the benefits of the social security schemes to them. Any worker who is working in unorganized sector and aged between 16-59, is eligible to register on the eSHRAM portal e.g. migrant workers, gig workers, platform workers, agricultural workers, MGNREGA workers, Fishermen, Milkmen, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, Street Vendors, Domestic workers, Rickshaw pullers and other workers engaged in similar other occupations in the unorganised sector. More than 18 crore unorganized workers  in the country have already registered under the E SHRAM  platform.

The registration under the e-SHRAM portal is totally free and workers do not have to pay anything for his or her registration at Common Service Centres (CSCs), or Regional Offices of State Government.

Labour Shramik Card Registration news: The Government of India last year rolled out a national database for unorganised workers for the overall welfare of crores of unorganised workers of the country. The Modi government has developed an e-SHRAM portal, which will be seeded with their Aadhaar cards.  

More than 16 crore unorganised workers (UW) in the country have already registered under the portal. The registration under the e-SHRAM portal is totally free and workers do not have to pay anything for his or her registration at Common Service Centres (CSCs), or Regional Offices of State Government.  They can also directly register through the e-SHRAM portal eshram.gov.in.

After the registration, the workers will be issued an e-SHRAM card with a unique Universal Account Number (UAN) and they will be able to access the benefits of the various social security schemes through this card anywhere anytime. 

It will have details of name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill types and family details etc. for optimum the realisation of their employability and extend the benefits of the social security schemes to them. It is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers and others.

Labour Shramik Card Benefits 

The e-SHRAM card will be acceptable across the country. After registering, the worker is entitled to get an accidental insurance cover and permanent disability of 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for partial disability under PMSBY.  In future, all the social security benefits of unorganised workers will be delivered through this portal.  

In emergency and national pandemic like situations, this database may be utilised to provide necessary assistance to the eligible unorganised workers. All registered unorganised workers will be provided the accidental insurance coverage through Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) for a year.  

It will also be helpful for State & Central Governments to provide assistance to eligible UWs in case of any pandemic/ calamities. The registration has already started on 26th August.  

Construction workers, migrant workers, street vendors, domestic workers, milkmen, truck drivers, fishermen, agriculture workers and similar other workers to be covered in e-Shram portal. 

This system is being made to register 38 crore unorganised workers. "It will not only register them but would also be helpful in delivering of various social security schemes being implemented by the Central and State Governments,” said the labour minister said.
